Ruben is a vastly experienced lock for his age, known for his physicality, work rate, and leadership in the engine room. A consistent performer, he has been a crucial figure for his franchise, bringing dominance in the set-piece and a relentless presence in open play.

His rugby journey began at Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool in Pretoria and quickly made a name for himself in the youth ranks with the Blue Bulls, He would progress to the Super Rugby squad before moving to the Sharks in 2018, where he established himself as a key player. He also had a stint with the Exeter Chiefs in the English Premiership, enhancing his skill set and versatility.

He would then go on to join the Stormers, where he played a pivotal role in their run to the 2022/23 URC final. In the 2023/24 season, he further underlined his defensive dominance, recording the most tackles in the URC with 239 tackles for the season, a testament to his relentless commitment.

He has his sights firmly set on wearing the green and gold, having proven he has what it takes to excel at the highest level of the game.
