Sako, born in East London, South Africa, is renowned for his speed and power. He primarily plays as a winger.
He began his career with the South Africa Sevens Academy in 2017, making his debut for the Blitzboks in 2019.

He was a key member of the team that secured a gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. In 2023, he made a successful transition from sevens to fifteens rugby, joining the Griquas, he showcased his skills and made a significant impact, helping the franchise secure the SA Cup during their unbeaten season.

His impressive performances with the Griquas led to his signing with the Stormers for the 2024 season.

Known for his exceptional speed, power, and ability to create space on the field, Makata is a versatile asset in both sevens and fifteens formats.
