Mpilo Gumede – Loose Forward Programme

Mpilo is widely regarded as one of South Africa’s brightest rugby prospects. A dynamic loose forward, he combines explosive ball-carrying ability with a strong physical presence and an impressive work rate around the park.

Comfortable at both eighthman and openside flank, his versatility adds another dimension to his game.
A product of Durban High School, Gumede’s talent was evident early on, earning him selection for the South Africa Schools team. He quickly transitioned into senior rugby, making his mark with the Sharks before moving to the Blue Bulls, where he continues to grow as a player.

His attacking prowess was on full display during the 2024 Currie Cup, where he crossed the try line seven times, showcasing his ability to break defences and contribute on attack play as well as defence.
